Boxer Breeders

The first Boxer breeders produced large, fierce, and powerful dogs for pit fighting and hunting large game, like boar and bison. One of the ancestors of the breed was the English Bulldog. The breed got its name because of a habit of these dogs to stand on their hind legs when fighting or playing.

Modern Boxer breeders have eliminated aggressive tendencies in these dogs. They breed Boxers for temperament and conformation. Boxer dogs are no longer fierce fighters and hunters, but affectionate loving family companions and personal protectors. A formidable look of the breed makes these dogs excellent guards and watchdogs, but actually, they will do no harm to intruders, except keeping them in. Boxer dogs are very funny and merry. Most of them possess a sense of humor and a clownish personality.

Responsible Boxer breeders register their dogs in one of the canine registries (AKC, ANKC, CKC, CKC, FCI, KCGB, NKC, NZKC, or UKC) and breed according to the breed standard. Every devoted breeder is a member of a breed club and abides by its code of ethics. All reputable breeders test their breeding stock for hereditary diseases and cull animals with defects. It guarantees that the offspring will not develop hereditary conditions later in life. Puppies from experienced and trustworthy breeders are easy to train and socialize, because they were kept in a friendly atmosphere and were socialized around various people. Money-oriented backyard breeders and puppy mills don’t care much about the health and trainability of their dogs, because they rely on impulsive buyers who know little on the breed and cannot determine a high quality dog from a mongrel.

Boxers can be good pets only if their owners are ready for the responsibility of owning a large dog and know how to train it. Much in the temperament of the dog depends on appropriate care and the amount of time the owner spends with the animal. First-time owners may face problems with making the dog obey. In these cases, a professional trainer can help. Responsible Boxer breeders are ready to help novice owners with a piece of advice.
